We maintain the refrigeration at a restaurant on Upper Street that’s been open for 12 years. Same walk-in cold room, same ice machine, same two ceiling cassettes in the dining room. The equipment’s original. It still works. Not because it’s indestructible — because it gets serviced properly, four times a year, and we catch things before they break.

That’s the pitch for maintenance in one example. But it also tells you something about how we work in North London: long relationships, consistent service, businesses that trust us because we’ve earned it over years, not because we quoted cheap on day one.

North London’s Commercial Landscape

North London stretches from Islington and King’s Cross through Camden, Holloway, and Finsbury Park, out to Muswell Hill, Tottenham, and Enfield. It’s diverse in every sense — the buildings, the businesses, the HVAC challenges.

Islington and King’s Cross are the commercial heart. Upper Street has one of the highest restaurant densities in London — Italian, Turkish, Japanese, Ethiopian, pizza, pubs, cocktail bars, all packed in along a two-kilometre stretch. Each one needs AC and commercial refrigeration. The King’s Cross regeneration around Granary Square and Coal Drops Yard has created a cluster of modern offices, restaurants, and retail spaces with contemporary VRF systems that need expert maintenance.

North London businesses count on us for reliable planned preventative maintenance and expert emergency breakdown service, whether that means a new system or keeping an existing one running smoothly.

Camden is its own world. Camden Market’s food stalls need commercial refrigeration that can take a beating — dust, crowds, outdoor exposure. The live music venues along Camden High Street and Chalk Farm Road have HVAC demands driven by large audiences and variable occupancy. The pubs and restaurants in between need the same reliable AC and refrigeration as anywhere else.

Further out — Crouch End, Muswell Hill, Highgate, Wood Green — the work shifts toward neighbourhood restaurants, independent retailers, small offices, GP surgeries, dental practices, and schools. The equipment is smaller-scale but the expectation is the same: it works, and when it doesn’t, someone answers the phone.

The Restaurants

If there’s a defining feature of our North London work, it’s restaurants. Upper Street alone keeps us busy — we maintain AC and refrigeration across multiple sites along that one road. But it extends into Highbury, Stoke Newington, Crouch End, and across to Kentish Town and Hampstead.

The challenges are consistent: tight kitchen spaces, old buildings with limited routes for pipework and ductwork, extraction systems that have to balance performance against noise complaints from residential neighbours, and walk-in cold rooms squeezed into basements with access via a narrow staircase.

We install and maintain Daikin and Mitsubishi split systems for dining rooms, design kitchen extraction to DW/172, service walk-in cold rooms from Foster, Williams, and various panel-build manufacturers, and keep ice machines and bottle coolers running through the busiest services.

The Turkish restaurants along Green Lanes present their own ventilation challenge — charcoal grills and open-flame cooking generating enormous heat loads in relatively small spaces. The extraction has to be seriously powerful, and the make-up air system has to keep pace. We’ve designed several of these systems and know what works.

Offices and Commercial

The King’s Cross area has transformed into a significant office destination. The buildings around Pancras Square, Granary Square, and York Way are modern, well-serviced, and typically run Daikin or Mitsubishi VRF systems. We work on several of these as part of planned maintenance contracts — quarterly visits, systematic checks across all indoor and outdoor units, filter changes, condensate drain flushes, refrigerant pressure checks.

Islington’s office market is more boutique — small to medium floors in converted residential and industrial buildings along City Road, Goswell Road, and Pentonville Road. Multi-split AC systems are the norm here, with the occasional VRF installation in the larger buildings. We install, maintain, and repair across all of them.

Schools, Healthcare, and Public Sector

North London has a significant number of schools, GP surgeries, dental practices, and community facilities that need commercial AC and refrigeration. School kitchens need the same walk-in cold rooms and commercial refrigeration as restaurants. GP surgeries need AC for patient comfort and vaccine fridges that hold temperature precisely. Dental practices need AC that keeps the surgery comfortable for both patient and practitioner during long procedures.

We work with several schools and healthcare facilities across the N and EN postcodes, typically on annual maintenance contracts.

Getting There

Our Covent Garden office puts us straight up to Angel, Islington, and King’s Cross. For the outer boroughs — Enfield, Barnet, Tottenham — we route via the A1 or A10. Response times vary by distance, but for the inner North London boroughs we can typically have an engineer on site within an hour for emergencies.

If something has gone wrong, our guides to condensing unit tripping on high pressure and cold room compressor running constantly explain the likely causes and what our engineers will check on arrival.
