How does a cold room work?
A cold room is essentially a large fridge or freezer, and so they work in the same way. Refrigeration systems compress a substance known as refrigerant, causing it to expand. As the refrigerant expands it absorbs energy. This process cools down components in the cold room design known as evaporator coils. These evaporator coils get very cold. As air passes over them, it also gets cold. Fans in the cold room refrigeration systems blow and circulate this very cold air all over the cold room.

What is the purpose of a cold room?
A cold room is an entire room, chamber, or area that is used for refrigeration purposes or as a freezer. Large areas of cold storage are necessary in many industries. Cold rooms are common in professional kitchens and restaurants. But also in supermarkets, laboratories and in warehouses. Like regular fridges and freezers, they preserve food and other items at temperatures below the outside temperature.

What is the temperature in a cold storage room?
Temperatures in cold room refrigerators are typically somewhere between 5°C and 1°C, depending on the chilling sensitivity of fresh food, along with other goods and items. As for cold room freezers, there are two types. Walk-in freezers, common in restaurants and shops, which operate at temperatures as low as -15°C. And pharmaceutical cold rooms, freeze everything inside at temperatures lower than -40°C and more.
