There’s a stretch of Brixton Market where we maintain the refrigeration for four different food traders within a hundred metres of each other. Walk-in cold rooms in railway arches, display cabinets in converted market stalls, ice machines squeezed into spaces that weren’t designed for anything more complicated than storing vegetables.

Each one is different. Each one’s a puzzle. And each one absolutely has to work, because when a cold room goes down in a market environment, there’s nowhere else to put the stock and no time to wait for a next-day appointment.

That’s South London in a nutshell for us. Varied, resourceful, demanding. We love working here.

What South London Looks Like for HVAC

South London covers enormous ground — from Southwark and Lambeth along the river down through Brixton, Clapham, Lewisham, and out to Croydon and Bromley. The building stock is wildly mixed: Victorian high streets, postwar council-built commercial blocks, 1960s tower blocks with plant rooms in the sky, brand-new mixed-use developments in the regeneration zones around Elephant & Castle, Nine Elms, and Canada Water.

Businesses across South London rely on us for emergency breakdown service alongside day-to-day commercial refrigeration installation, keeping their systems running through every season.

The regeneration areas are where we’re seeing the most new work. The new developments around Battersea Power Station, Elephant Park, and the Old Kent Road corridor are being fitted out with modern VRF and VRV systems from day one. We install these systems during the fit-out phase — working alongside main contractors and M&E consultants to get the AC commissioned and signed off as part of the handover.

The established restaurant and hospitality scenes in Brixton, Peckham, Clapham, and Dulwich are the other major strand. South London has been a food destination for years, and the restaurants here work harder per square metre than almost anywhere outside Soho. Small kitchens, high throughput, extraction systems that are often inadequate because the building was never designed for commercial cooking.

Our South London Work

AC installation and repair. We install everything from single splits in small retail units to full VRF systems in commercial office buildings. Croydon has a significant commercial office market — the towers around East Croydon station run Daikin, Mitsubishi, and Samsung VRF systems, and we maintain several of these on PPM contracts. Further in toward the river, the offices tend to be smaller floor plates in converted buildings, where multi-split systems are the practical choice.

Commercial refrigeration. Walk-in cold rooms, under-counter prep fridges, display cabinets, bottle coolers, ice machines, blast freezers. We maintain and repair them across South London’s restaurants, pubs, market traders, food production units, and commercial kitchens. When a Foster walk-in goes down in a Peckham restaurant at 5pm on a Friday, that call comes to us.

Kitchen ventilation. The restaurant scene across Brixton, Clapham, and Peckham is intense. Many operate from buildings that were never designed for commercial kitchens — converted shops, railway arches, market stalls. The extraction and ventilation challenge is getting adequate airflow out of a space with no roof access, tight party walls, and neighbours who don’t appreciate cooking smells. We design and install kitchen ventilation to DW/172 that works within these constraints.

Planned maintenance. For businesses that depend on their refrigeration and AC — which is most of our South London clients — PPM is the smart play. Regular servicing catches issues before they become failures, and it costs a fraction of emergency callouts. We structure PPM contracts around each site’s equipment and operating pattern.

Getting Around South London

Anyone who works across South London knows that getting from A to B can be an adventure. The bus network is good, the Overground helps, but for an engineer with a van full of parts, it’s the road network that matters — and South London’s roads are notoriously busy.

We plan our South London work in geographic clusters. Brixton, Clapham, and Balham in one round. Croydon and Bromley in another. Bermondsey, Peckham, and Lewisham together. The engineers who cover these areas know the routes, the parking, and the access arrangements. They know that the Brixton road is always jammed, that Peckham Rye has no loading bays, and that the delivery entrance for a Croydon office tower is on the opposite side of the building from where Google Maps sends you.

What Sets Us Up for South London

We’ve got two offices — Covent Garden at 71–75 Shelton Street, WC2H 9JQ and Uxbridge at Daneshill House, 3 Waterloo Road, UB8 2QX. The Covent Garden base gives us direct access to inner South London across the bridges, and for the outer boroughs, we route via the South Circular or the A23.

F-Gas certified. Daikin D1 partner. We work on all the major brands — Daikin, Mitsubishi, Fujitsu, Samsung, Carrier on AC; Foster, Williams, Hoshizaki, True on refrigeration. The engineers carry parts, refrigerant, and diagnostic equipment on the vans, so most first visits result in a fix, not a quote for a return trip.

Common call-outs in the area include walk-in fridge temperature issues and beer cellar cooling problems — our engineers carry the parts and tools needed for a first-visit fix wherever possible.
